Welcome to Class 2!
Robin Class 2020-21
Welcome to Robin Class page.
Robins are the Year 2 Class at Stogumber School, and are taught by Mr Oliver Armitage (covering Miss Anna Daley on Maternity Leave) and supported by Mrs Lorraine Shopland. Mrs Jodie Carter (Year 1 Class Teacher) and Mrs Lisa Thorne (HLTA) are also around to support and teach us occasionally. We are a small school so we share the space with Owls (Reception) and Wrens (Year 1) who are supported by Miss Ailish Jenkins.
Here at Stogumber C of E Primary School we follow our school's mission statement by promoting the children to be 'composers of our own futures'. The way we encourage our children to also access extra learning opportunities are by having specialist teachers to teach our children in their fields. Mrs Penny Phillips teaches the children art, and Mr Josh Wedderkopp teaches the children P.E and Forest School. We also have Mrs Helen Napper who teaches Music with the children.
In Robin Class we love it when the children read! We have a 'Reading Raffle' which all children have the chance to win if they read for a minimum of 4 nights a week! The children who do so get their name in the draw and the winner receives the Robin Class Reading Raffle Trophy for the week! We also have a cosy, inviting book corner where the children can access Fiction and Non- Fiction texts at their own leisure.

What we've been up to!
The children have returned to school in a lovely manner with a fantastic attitude to learning. In Literacy the children in Robin class have been learning about features of instruction writing using 'Bossy Verbs' and appropriate time connectives. The children wrote recipes on how to make their perfect smoothie, which they also got to make!
During Maths the children have been working on Multiplication and Division. We have been using lots of equipment to practice making multiplication sentences and arrays. The children also have practiced 'talking like a mathematician' and are using language such as repeated addition, equal groups of and commutative. They will be moving onto division where they will focus on sharing and grouping. This will deeper their understanding as we can use multiplication and division to help them use the inverse for their calculations!
In Art, the children have been looking at the work of JMW Turner, by creating 'Seascapes' using watercolour paint, salt and wax crayons. Some of the results are amazing!
