The School Council comprises 2 children from each year group elected by their peers. They have monthly lunchtime meetings where they discuss a range of issues concerning their school family, village community and the wider community. Discussions are led by a chairperson and minuted by the secretary.
Over the last year, school council has been involved in decision making regarding the new school play equipment, summer play day activities in the village and fundraising activities at school events for their chosen charities.
A highlight for one council was the involvement in recruiting members of staff in the form of a group interview, the questions having been compiled by themselves.
The key role is for the children to have a voice and they represent the rest of the school to allow that voice to be heard. If ever you want to find out who they are, just enter the entrance at Crowcombe, and they are beaming right back at you!
