Welcome

Welcome to Railway children Preschool

Railway children Preschool runs sessions to children from the ages 2 ½ to school age, operating Monday - Friday, 9.00-3.30pm.

It is set within the Stogumber Village Hall and on the grounds of Stogumber Primary School, offering an idyllic rural setting with access to the school’s new adventure playground, grass playing fields and the beautiful surrounding area.

We were previously Ofsted registered as “Good”. We endeavour to meet or exceed all of Ofsted’s requirements with regard to safeguarding.

Since September 2016, the Pre-School has been managed by the School Governors and Headteacher.   Day to day running of pre-school is with our dedicated team led by our Supervisor Mrs Katy Davis (Early Years Teacher Status) and overseen by our Early Years Teacher and Early Years Leader Mrs Caroline Chrystall, as well as supported by other highly qualified staff.

Staff provide a structured program of “learning through play”, working within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

This allows us to offer a safe and stimulating environment in which children can learn develop and grow. Our curriculum is rich, varied and based around stimulating themes initiated by the children and staff. We operate a key person system which gives consistency and builds relationships during the child’s time at the preschool.

We are fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to learn outdoors, utilising the school grounds and local area - to experience nature and be inspired by it, to make the most of the amazing natural environment that surrounds us.

Using observations of each individual child we plan the next steps to their learning, completing a termly EYFS summary which is shared with parents/carers regularly and other settings and outside agencies if appropriate.

Should you choose Crowcombe & Stogumber Primary School, the transition is smoothed by the strong links between the schools. Reception teachers are able to get to know the children in the Pre-school setting, regularly sharing events and visits. However, we aim to achieve a positive move to any chosen primary school, sharing information and arranging visits where necessary.

Our experienced and friendly staff provide happy nurturing care for the children; treating each child as an individual, enabling them to become proactive learners for life. We pride ourselves on our caring ethos. Each child within the group is encouraged to progress at their own rate in all areas of development.
